Cosmetic dental procedures are dental treatments aimed at improving the appearance of a person's teeth, gums, or smile. While some procedures primarily focus on enhancing aesthetics, others may also improve dental functionality and overall oral health.
Smile design is a specialized area of cosmetic dentistry which mainly focuses on enhancing the smile of a person through various dental treatments. It involves a comprehensive assessment of a person's facial features, oral structures, and dental aesthetics to create a customized treatment plan aimed at improving the appearance of their smile.
Common cosmetic dental procedures:
Teeth Whitening:Also known as bleaching, this procedure lightens teeth and helps remove stains and discolouration. It can be done in-office or at home using whitening products prescribed by a dentist.
Indirect Dental Veneers: These are thin, custom-made (in the Lab) shells of tooth-coloured materials (such as porcelain or composite resin) designed to cover the front surface of teeth. Veneers can improve the appearance of teeth by changing their colour, shape, size, or length.
Direct Dental Veneers: This procedure involves applying a tooth-coloured resin material to the tooth surface and then shaping and polishing it to match the surrounding teeth. It is commonly used to repair chipped or cracked teeth, close gaps between teeth, or cover discoloured teeth.
Dental Crowns: Crowns, also known as caps, are custom-made covers that encase the entire tooth surface above the gum line. They are used to restore the shape, size, strength, and appearance of a tooth that is significantly damaged or decayed.
Dental Implants: Implants are artificial tooth roots made of titanium that are surgically placed into the jawbone beneath the gum line. They provide a stable foundation for replacing teeth (crowns) that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. For more details visit the Implants section HERE
Orthodontic Treatments: Orthodontic procedures, such as braces or clear aligners (e.g., Invisalign), are used to straighten crooked or misaligned teeth, improve bite alignment, and enhance overall smile aesthetics. For more details visit the Orthodontics section HERE
Gum Contouring: Also known as gum reshaping or tissue sculpting, this procedure involves removing excess gum tissue to improve the appearance of a "gummy" smile or to create a more symmetrical gum line.
Dental Bridges: Bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring artificial teeth (pontics) to adjacent natural teeth or dental implants. They restore the appearance and function of the smile.
Tooth Contouring and Reshaping: This procedure involves removing small amounts of tooth enamel to change the shape, length, or surface of teeth.
