How long do dental crowns last?

 The lifespan of a dental crown can vary depending on factors such as the material used, oral hygiene practices, chewing habits, and general wear and tear. On an average, dental crowns can last anywhere from 5 to 15 years or even longer with proper care.

How long does it take to get a dental crown?

The process of getting a dental crown usually requires two appointments. During the first appointment, your dentist will prepare the tooth, take impressions (measurements). The impressions will be sent to a dental laboratory where the permanent crown will be custom-made, which usually takes 3 to 4 working days. At the second appointment the permanent crown will be fixed. During the wait period a temporary crown (optional) will be placed on the prepared tooth.

How do I care for my dental crown?

 To prolong the life of your dental crown, it is important to practice good oral hygiene habits including regular brushing, flossing, and routine dental check-ups. Avoid biting down on hard objects or using your teeth to open packages, and consider wearing a mouthguard if you grind your teeth at night.

Can a dental crown be replaced if necessary?

Yes, if a dental crown becomes damaged, worn out, or if there are changes in your oral health, it may have to be replaced.  The condition of the existing crown will be evaluated by the dentist and the best course of action will be recommended.

Who is a candidate for a dental bridge?

Candidates for dental bridges typically have one or more missing teeth adjacent to each other and have healthy teeth or implants on either side of the gap to support the bridge.

How long does it take to get a dental bridge?

The process typically requires two or more visits to the dentist. During the initial visit, the teeth are prepared, impressions are taken, and a temporary bridge is placed. The final bridge is fabricated in a dental laboratory and then cemented during a subsequent visit.

Can I eat normally with dentures?

Yes, with some adjustment, you can eat most foods comfortably with dentures. However, it may take some time to get used to eating with them.

How long do dentures last ? 

Dentures can last several years with proper care and maintenance , however the removable dentures need to be assessed on a regular basis.

Is prosthodontic treatment painful?

Prosthodontic treatments mainly crowns and bridges are typically performed under local anesthesia, so you should not feel any pain during the procedure. Any discomfort afterward can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain medication.
